Though I am not from a deaf family, my fluent BSL often I am asked who my deaf parents are. I am able to adjust to different BSL styles, and am able to use the St Vincent's sign dialect of some Glasgow deaf people. 

I have always loved language, and studied German to Higher at school, then studied Russian for two years as part of my undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology at the University of Glasgow. I started learning BSL at college, at an evening class when I was 21, just out of interest. I continued with Level 2 BSL, and Level 3 BSL, when I applied for the Scottish Government's Apprenticeship programme in 2009. I completed the apprenticeship in 2010, but continued to study at the University of Leeds, completing the postgraduate MA Interpreting Studies: BSL/English. I continued to work for the company I had completed my apprenticeship with, Sign Language Interactions, until spring 2012, when I decided to work as a freelance interpreter.
